Third snowiest winter in Chicago
We are getting near the 80+ inches from the 1977-78 and 1978-79 winters. With last night’s snow, we are at 79.1″ of snow. Last night’s snow was evil as it’s heavy wet snow. So diabolical that it sticks to the shovel. We lost one big branch on our smokebush and the evergreen in the front of the house is bent in half.
Here’s a graph of annual snowfall in Chicago.

Have you considered moving?
It does look pretty but I know only too well what a monumental pain it is too. How’s your back holding up?
March 12, 2014
Lisa Davenport my commute will suck. I bet there’s blowing snow on LSD. How about your commute?
March 12, 2014
Micha Fire my back says oww too.
Can I move to London with Nikki C and Mr. C?
March 12, 2014
Chad Haney you can move here – nearly Spring now, sunny and very dry………………. (and has been the warmest and snowless winter in ages)

Micha Fire, I complain about the snow but I would miss it. I lived in California for a while. Two seasons: brown and green. No thanks.

This winter is bogus! I object!

Crazy! Come tan with us!
March 12, 2014
I noticed you have an extra lawn chair in your backyard Brigitte W. I might have to take you and your hubby up on some southern hospitality.
March 12, 2014
Heh. My only experience of Chicago was the winter of 77/78. I knew it was record cold, but had no idea it was record snow. I just thought that was normal losing cars in blizzards and stuff.
March 12, 2014
Send that snow to the west coast, we need it.
I have no concept of snow sticking to a shovel, how weird.
March 12, 2014
I wonder what’s with the weather!
It’s hot and sunny one moment, and rainy the next! I got drenched on my way home. Shivering!
March 12, 2014
So, you’re the one getting our snow. We already have flowers. This is record early for us.
March 12, 2014
Old Man Winter is a zealot, that’s for sure.
March 12, 2014
Owen Gale, the blizzard in 1978 was worse on the other side of the lake. I grew up in Michigan. We lived on the 3rd floor and I jumped off the balcony into the snow.
Stay warm Deeksha Tare, even though that’s relative.
Knut Torgersen I’ll be happy to send you some of my snow.
Lex Larson, did you guys get a lot of snow too?
March 12, 2014
Chad Haney We got zero snow in metro MSP. South MN got a couple inches.
March 12, 2014
I guess it was too far south. I wonder if that means Robyn Miller will get slammed with snow.
March 12, 2014
“No matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow” Hope the weather will improve soon Chad Haney
March 12, 2014
Thanks Siromi Samarasinghe. Sometimes spring is short here and summer arrives too quickly. I’ll take spring or summer, as soon as possible.
March 12, 2014
We have ski resorts out here that haven’t had as much snow this year.
Today on the Central Coast of Ca it is about 80 F ( 26 ℃), the season is very light green and turning to brown, daily.
March 12, 2014
I’ll try to send the snow your way next year, Gary Ray R
March 13, 2014
Hmmmm. Will keep this in mind!

Chad Haney – For shoveling, I recommend the technique we use:
1. Go to garage and get shovel.
2. Bring shovel inside house.
3. Place (clean) shovel upright against wall. (VERY IMPORTANT)
4. Make pot of tea.
5. Ignore shovel (ALSO VERY IMPORTANT) , crawl back in bed with tea and heat source of your choice.
6. Wait for spring thaw.
This has never failed me, when next I go out, the snow is all gone.
March 13, 2014
Our snow season started in January and had already ended. As a kid, it might be a mid-October – mid-May experience.
March 13, 2014
Geez! That’s brutal!
March 13, 2014
Several kinds of brutal… Brutally long and a brutal change. Our planet seems pretty FUBAR.
March 13, 2014
That is messed up Knut Torgersen
March 13, 2014
Interesting method Michael Verona. The problem is, you have to use that technique consistently.

“In a minute, dear, I am just going to…” also works, Michael Verona
