Uplifting for #MusicMonday  and to cheer up a friend

Uplifting for #MusicMonday  and to cheer up a friend

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while and my pal having a bad day was the push I needed to do this. Are you having a good Monday? I’m sure at some point in your life you’ve had a shitty day. Something bad happened; you’re frustrated about something, someone, etc. Today was OK for me. However, my pal Kimberly Chapman had a bad day. You’ve probably seen quite a few discussions lately about hate and misogyny on social networks. Today, there were a few discussions about blocking people on G+ and perceived censorship. Yonatan Zunger has a great post to describe the situation and recommends how to behave. Banhammer: http://goo.gl/Ncnu3

I’m not talking about that here.  Since it is #MusicMonday   What I want to share and start a discussion on is, when you are having a bad day, what song(s) do you turn to, to lift your spirits? I picked two songs from two different genres. If you care to join, either to share what music lifts you up or to support Kimberly Chapman and/or A.V. Flox  because some idiots just don’t get it, list two songs and I’ll add them to this YouTube shared list.

If my profile pic didn’t tip you off, here’s the reason I like Don’t Stop Believing

Aw Chad Haney, you’re such a sweetie.  I should probably give you that Rajeeving I owe you in response, except now I’m too squishy-faced from being moved at your sweetness, you. 🙂

I hadn’t heard the first song before.  It was adorable.  The second is one I can sing along to. 😀

As I just posted in that big other thread there (not realizing I was about to come read your musical thread), I quite enjoyed singing this repeatedly and loudly on my drive to get Peo this afternoon: lily allen – fuck you (album version)

Weird Al (which came on after) also lifts the spirits.  Great Big Sea can do so as well.

I love this idea, Gnotic Pasta! YouTube might be more accessible so I’ll try to reproduce my Spotify list there for those who don’t have it.

Though everyone should have it, it’s that great.

Chad Haney…sorry for my late input but since I tend to be the stray one in this group regarding taste in music, what perks me up is good “old skool” R&B/Classic Soul & Classic Rock! For starters…Isaac Hayes “Shaft”…now an super oldie from The Moody Blues “Lost in a Lost World”, Aerosmith “Walk This Way” and end with soothing songs from Roberta Flake “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” & Carole King “It’s Too Late”. Sometimes the songs from musical history still has it place. I hope this brings you comfort, Kimberly Chapman :-).

Everyone has added great songs. I hope that more people add to it. If any of you lurkers out there are feeling shy, don’t be.

Chad Haney and Kimberly Chapman this song always lift my mood:The Grates – Science is Golden

It’s by a Brisbane-based Australian band call The Grates – the song is a bit odd, but it’s fun, and it even fits with #sciencesunday  (even though it has come and gone for this week).

Thanks Kimberly Chapman *The Grates* are great (!) for uplifting energetic songs (even if they are somewhat nonsensical) that really gets you on your feet! Here’s another: The Grates – 19-20-20
