Uplifting for #MusicMonday  and to cheer up a friend

Uplifting for #MusicMonday  and to cheer up a friend

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while and my pal having a bad day was the push I needed to do this. Are you having a good Monday? I’m sure at some point in your life you’ve had a shitty day. Something bad happened; you’re frustrated about something, someone, etc. Today was OK for me. However, my pal Kimberly Chapman had a bad day. You’ve probably seen quite a few discussions lately about hate and misogyny on social networks. Today, there were a few discussions about blocking people on G+ and perceived censorship. Yonatan Zunger has a great post to describe the situation and recommends how to behave. Banhammer: http://goo.gl/Ncnu3

I’m not talking about that here.  Since it is #MusicMonday   What I want to share and start a discussion on is, when you are having a bad day, what song(s) do you turn to, to lift your spirits? I picked two songs from two different genres. If you care to join, either to share what music lifts you up or to support Kimberly Chapman and/or A.V. Flox  because some idiots just don’t get it, list two songs and I’ll add them to this YouTube shared list.

If my profile pic didn’t tip you off, here’s the reason I like Don’t Stop Believing

Obscured by Bokeh

Obscured by Bokeh

Someone commented on Rajini Rao  post about a Syd Barrett video http://goo.gl/u2W5l so it popped into my notifications.

I figured it’s time to share some Pink Floyd. Then I thought I should find something obscure. Although I ♥ all things Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon can be shared only so many times. Ditto for The Wall. Then I thought, I haven’t listened to Obscured by Clouds in a long time.

So here is Childhood’s End on Obscured by Clouds. Obscured by Clouds was Pink Floyd’s soundtrack for the French film La Vallée, which is about a woman who goes on a search of a mysterious hidden valley in the bush of New Guinea. The album was released in 1972 and reached number 1 in France, 6 in the UK, and 46 in the US :(. The album cover, which I sadly miss with CDs and DVDs, is a perfect example of Bokeh (intentional blur, out of focus, photography).

Another interesting tidbit, check out the other users of the EMS VCS3 synthesizer, which was used on Obscured by Clouds.
