Langer Lake, Idaho

Langer Lake, Idaho

Pictures from my recent camping/hiking trip with Gnotic Pasta and two of his sons. We had a great time hiking, chatting, and joking around. I wasn’t sure I could keep up with Dan and Adrian but I survived. The first part of the hike in was a serious elevation change with a backpack. The plan was to hike in, set up base camp, then day hike to the plane crash site. We got close to the plane crash site but figured it was too steep and too much cross-country hiking (i.e., no trail). So we bailed out on trying to find the crash site. We are already talking about where to go for the next trip.

#GooglePlusNatureChallenge Day 5 of 5

Gnotic Pasta invited me to take the #GooglePlusNatureChallenge. You are supposed to post pictures of nature for 5 days. I’d like to invited Steven Spence  who has excellent photography.

Wow – that’s pretty far out there.  Still not too far from Boise, but I’d never heard of it.

Steven Spence, I’m looking forward to your photos. Gnotic Pasta was able to take a picture of an American bald eagle. It would have been nice to have a nice zoom lens. However, what little weight we did have in our packs was more than enough already.

Gnotic Pasta, if you don’t have Steven Spence circled, he has some excellent pictures of birds (raptors). He’s an all around good person too.

Thanks Peter Lindelauf, we did have a great time. We need to save up money to fly to BC. It will probably be some time before I can drive out there as would like.

It really was a nice break, Marta Zamora. There’s no cell signal in the mountains so it was a real break from work too.

Gnotic Pasta, I’m blaming you for the new REI Flash sleeping bag I just bought. It’s down on the top and synthetic on the bottom, freaking super lightweight and compressible. A Primus stove was on sale and made my choice of stoves real easy.

If we ever plan to hike where it gets below 30 F, I’ll buy a warm bag liner. That should be OK, with long johns and a fleece top.

I just noticed my Primus stove is missing feet for the fuel canister. I thought they weren’t supposed to be included and didn’t notice they were missing. Then I saw on the box that they were supposed to be included.

Double-wall titanium cup is about $45. That will have to wait.

The funny thing that Turkey is the only country in the world that I can enter without visa…I think Iran too (not sure) Gnotic Pasta the other countries don’t give visas to the Syrians (special cases only)

Oh yes..you get the visa in the airport, I think it’s almost the same in many middle eastern countries Gnotic Pasta

Awwww..that’s so sweet, but trust me, getting a visa is a pain these days, I have applied many times to visit UAE, but all my request were declined 🙁 Chad Haney

Some great shots there Chad. I couldn’t figure out how to comment on individual photos – is it possible? I’m so out of the loop with G+ now.

I will upgrade to camping at some point – but for now fishing is enough 😀 … I have my very own fishing rod!

    Darn and blast it! 😉

Well, I love the slice of life style you have where you include photos of your shoes too 😀  The forest fires, seeing them in real life is pretty incredible. Hadn’t seen any before I moved here but there’s some almost every summer, due to weather or miscreants acting up.

Rajini Rao, here’s the story with the Vienna sausage from Gnotic Pasta’s son Adrian. Too bad the new and improved Photos won’t let you comment on photos within a Story. Great upgrade.

I must have missed this! Not a fan of the “Story” format for G+ photos. Too slithery on my Mac. I think it’s good for a cursory look, but not convenient to view individually.

The old version was nice or at least better. You can’t comment on individual photos. You can’t ping people on individual photos. It’s just a mess since they removed the integration with G+.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to my next trip to ID. I need to buy a backpack and then I’m set.
