Ready for camping

Ready for camping

Here’s a packable pillow from Grand Trunk that I bought this past Christmas. It might be too big for serious backpacking but it’s excellent for the airplane and car camping. My Osprey 2L reservoir in my REI daypack is in the background.

This is the one I have, originally bought specifically for backpacking, but now I use it for almost all car camps as well[1].

It might be a slightly different model, but it packs to the same small size.

Need to get together with you and Gnotic Pasta and get some packing/camping in.

Thanks Gray Embry. This pillow is way more heavy.

I think the only thing I need now is to pull the trigger on an Osprey ATMOS AG pack.

I’ve been thinking about buying one of those to replace my 2 Osprey Aethers (one of which needs repair, and is like 10+ years old).

Now that I’ve got a somewhat small tent, and a good, super-compactible sleeping bag, it would be nice to trim the weight of the pack itself down. I know the Atmos is popular for PCT thru-hikers. It seems like a good blend of space to weight.

Gray Embry, at least for me (and probably Gnotic Pasta) it fits really nice. It feels solid when you’re walking around the store.

Oh, I don’t doubt it. Every Osprey pack I’ve had has been perfectly engineered and super comfy.

I have their Stratos as my daypack and love it. I might be able to pack light enough that I could use it for an overnight.

Have you looked at the Exos?

Much lighter… but then again, it can’t handle as much weight. Also, it’s a top-load-only, which can be kinda annoying. I like having a dedicated sleeping bag compartment.

I think I got the smallest Stratos they make, it’s not too big for a daypack.

Yeah, my Aether is in great shape. I just keep thinking it’s more bag than I need most times. Which means I’m carrying 2 pounds of pack I don’t need most times.

I haven’t looked at the Exos. I did OK with Dan’s Aether, so I think the ATMOS AG will be just right. I’m not sure I need the ultralight Exos and slightly reduced capacity.

Gray Embry, I bought the Sea- to -Summit pillow you recommended during REI’s anniversary sale. It’s super small. Thanks for the tip. I also saved a bit on the ATMOS AG 65 backpack. I needed to replace my Asolo boots and found some on sale too.

I think I’m all set for camping with Gnotic Pasta.

I probably could still get away with a rolled up jacket.
