Madagascar Jasmine, last year

The Madagascar Jasmine is much larger and ready to bloom already. Crazy winter! It’s been ~40 F, so we can’t take it outside yet.

Misha Belle , old world roses can be purchased at nurseries and they smell great. I like David Austin roses which are bred out of old English roses with that “cabbage rose” look. The florist type tea roses are so boring. In India, we weave jasmines with twine into strands which are then tucked into women’s braids. In southern India, wearing jasmines or mogra flowers in one’s hair is a standard part of dressing up.

Rajini Rao my grandmother bought a lot of her roses from Jackson & Perkins. I’ll have to check out David Austin.
