Rapture by Blondie

Rapture by Blondie

I forgot how cool Blondie and Debbie Harry are. Here’s a flashback for 80s fans.

Toe to toe

Dancing very close

Barely breathing

Almost comatose

Wall to wall

People hypnotized

And they’re stepping lightly

Hang each night in Rapture

Back to back

Sacroiliac

Spineless movement

And a wild attack

Face to face

Sadly solitude

And it’s finger popping

Twenty-four hour shopping in Rapture

Fab Five Freddie told me everybody’s high

DJ’s spinnin’ are savin’ my mind

Flash is fast, Flash is cool

Francois sez fas, Flashe’ no do

And you don’t stop, sure shot

Go out to the parking lot

And you get in your car and you drive real far

And you drive all night and then you see a light

And it comes right down and lands on the ground

And out comes a man from Mars

And you try to run but he’s got a gun

And he shoots you dead and he eats your head

And then you’re in the man from Mars

You go out at night, eatin’ cars

You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too

Mercury’s and Subaru’s

And you don’t stop, you keep on eatin’ cars

Then, when there’s no more cars

You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet

Face to face, dance cheek to cheek

One to one, man to man

Dance toe to toe

Don’t move to slow, ’cause the man from Mars

Is through with cars, he’s eatin’ bars

Yeah, wall to wall, door to door, hall to hall

He’s gonna eat ’em all

Rapture, be pure

Take a tour, through the sewer

Don’t strain your brain, paint a train

You’ll be singin’ in the rain

I said don’t stop, to punk rock

Well now you see what you wanna be

Just have your party on TV

‘Cause the man from Mars won’t eat up bars when the TV’s on

And now he’s gone back up to space

Where he won’t have a hassle with the human race

And you hip-hop, and you don’t stop

Just blast off, sure shot

‘Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin’ cars and eatin’ bars

And now he only eats guitars, get up!

Wendy Jensen debbie was ahead of her time, she was the queen of mainstream punk music..She makes one song disco /rap beat and that makes her the queen r&b and funk, you disrespect alot of real r&b and funk singers careers and accomplishments. So typical.

Wendy Jensen Well, I have studied music for 33 years, so I would like to tell you that you are wrong. Dont try to argue either, I am a musician. Oh, and I grew up on this music, so you could consider me to be an expert of sorts.

33 years of experience is not something that can be easily ignored. I know you are probably a little embarrassed that I have corrected you in public, but in a year or so, when you have 33 years of experience, you will understand. Plus, having grown up on this music, I kind of know what I am talking about. Dont argue with a classically trained musician.

wabblum99 yeah, ….I just revisited this video and was thinking there was a bit of racist tone to it. I am sure it wasn’t meant that way though. Back when it came out I didn’t feel that way. I actually thought the black dude in a white tuxedo doing a soft shoe or whatever was cool and actually good for racial relations. What does that say? I don’t know. But I am sure you saying “honkey” and “death to Debbie Harry” isn’t helping. Everything starts with us. Be cool.

wabblum99 I’m sorry. I don’t want to harp on this, but this is really bothering me. Do you really believe Debbie Harry actually had any say in how this video would be produced? At that time, artists were compelled to appear in the video that the record company chose. I am sure if she or Chris Stein had had any control, it would have been much different. She is responsible for bringing rap to the attention of mainstream. She did that because she admired it.

utubegirl LMAO YES “Original Rapper” You’re a idiot. Blondie (Deborah Harry) is ABSOLUTELY the FIRST PERSON, white or black, male or female, that got radio or TV AirPlay rapping. Look it up so next time you put your foot in your mouth, you won’t look so ignorant. If that’s even possible.

Garry Harville Maybe you should put your money where your mouth is as well. In your statement above you say Blondie (Deborah Harry) but Blondie was not Debbie Harry, no, it was a group made up of over ten members over the years. So perhaps you should also do some checking before you open your mouth and say that Blondie was the first ‘person’ white or etc….

S Brink Why don’t you split some hairs? LMFARO. Put my money where my mouth is? Really? I don’t think I need to. Debbie Harry is the VOCALIST of Blondie, Right? So, what’s your point? That’s a rhetorical question by the way, because If you even made a point, which you didn’t, I could care less what it was. Blah Blah Blah!
